Newcastle should join race for Reid

Newcastle United should consider moving for Bristol City playmaker Bobby Reid, who is reportedly attracting plenty of interest ahead of the January transfer window.

Teamtalk claims that Leicester, Brighton, Burnley and Middlesbrough are all eyeing the 24-year-old.

It is understood that they could all make a move in January for the attacking midfielder if his long-term future at Ashton Gate is not sorted by then.

The report details that Bristol City are trying to secure a new deal for Reid as his current contract expires at the end of the season, but the Robins do have a 12-month option on him.

Reid has been ripping up the Championship so far this term for surprise team Bristol City, who are currently fourth in England’s second-tier.

The English creative maestro has been a huge goal threat for his side this year and already has scored 10 goals across all competitions in 19 games.

Nine of Reid’s goals have come in the league and he also netted against Premier League opposition Watford in the Carabao Cup.

Newcastle should seriously look to pick up the in-form attacker in January and there is every chance they could get him at a cheap price given his contract situation, but competition would be fierce.

Rafael Benitez’s side desperately need more goals injected into their side and going out in January is the best way to do that.

Ayoze Perez is the regular option in the number 10 role for Newcastle, but he has scored just once all season.

Reid would be a slight risk given the fact he has never played in the Premier League, but the 24-year-old beginning to hit his peak and his current form suggests he is ready to make the step up.
