Leeds United will need to strengthen their squad in January if they are to push for promotion this season and an ideal signing they should pursue is Newcastle United midfielder Mohamed Diame.
The 30-year-old is reportedly prepared to leave St James’ Park in the New Year and his preference is to link up with Aston Villa.
However, the Whites should now look to battle their Championship rivals and bring the Senegal International to Elland Road.
Diame is a powerhouse midfielder that has become renowned for being a big physical presence in the centre of the park and also has a great eye for goal.
The box-to-box midfielder could be considered a promotion expert as he has gone up twice from the Championship in the last two consecutive season.
He helped Newcastle win the league last season on the final day of the season and went up in the 2015/16 campaign with Hull via the play-offs.
His know-how and experience of how to clinch promotion is exactly the type of player that Leeds could do with in their squad.
Diame has always been a mid-level player in the Premier League, but on his day he has shown he can rip apart teams at Championship level.
The central midfielder scored nine goals for Hull during their promotion two years ago and Thomas Christiansen’s side could do with some extra attacking firepower.
Leeds have switched to a three-man midfield recently and there is certainly a need for an extra recruit.??Eunan O’Kane and Kalvin Phillips have seen their own form drop considerably in recent weeks, while youngster Ronaldo Vieira has come into the side on a regular basis.
Diame would be the perfect player that the manager could turn to and would be a huge help in the second half of the season for his influence on and off the pitch.
