Leeds United fans took to Twitter to destroy Liam Cooper for his first-half performance against Barnsley on Saturday afternoon even though the visitors were 2-0 ahead.

The Leeds skipper kept his place in the starting XI for the lunchtime showdown even though the defence has leaked goals during the team’s alarming slump in the last two months, including in the 4-1 midweek mauling by Wolves.

Cooper lined up alongside Pontus Jansson in the centre of defence, with full-backs Luke Ayling and Gaetano Berardi also somewhat surprisingly retaining their spots.

The one big call that manager Thomas Christiansen made was that Felix Wiedwald replaced Andy Lonergan in goal.

It appeared to pay dividends, as Leeds were two goals up at half-time through a shot from Samuel Saiz that should have been saved and a peach of a strike from the in-form Ezgjan Alioski.

But supporters were still not convinced by mainstay defender Cooper.
