Everton are one of several clubs interested in signing defender Daniel Opare from German top-flight club Augsburg, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims that the Toffees have shown an interest in signing the 27-year-old.

It is understood that several teams are eyeing a cut-price £2.5million swoop for the right-back in January as his contract with Augsburg expires at the end of the season.

The report details that the Bundesliga side have been unable to convince the defender to sign a new contract with them and need to decide whether to cash in on him in January.

Premier League duo Stoke and Watford are named as interested suitors, while European clubs AC Milan, Seveilla and Marseille are also in the hunt.

Good move for Everton?

Everton’s right-back position has been a problem for them so far this season with Cuco Martina struggling and youngster Jonjoe Kenny still developing.

However, they are set to be boosted by the return of senior defender Seamus Coleman soon when he makes his comeback after a horrible leg break.

Opare is an interesting option for Everton and would certainly be good value for money at just £2.5million.

The powerhouse full-back is a mainstay in Augsburg’s starting XI, who are currently eighth in the Bundesliga table.

Everton should instead be looking to strengthen their centre-back and forward options in January, despite a potentially solid arrival in Opare.

Likely to happen?

It appears that Opare could well leave his German club in January as they look to avoid him leaving on a free in the summer.

Everton are recognised as interested parties, but are unlikely to grab his signature with such a made scramble on for him.

The Merseyside club still need to appoint a new full-time manager before drawing up transfer plans
