Everton have been eyeing midfielder Hamza Barry from Croatian top-flight club Hajduk Split, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims that the Toffees have watched the 23-year-old and that he is valued at £5million.

It is understood that Premier League rivals West Ham and Watford have also been monitoring the central midfielder.

Barry has been a mainstay in the Hajduk Split team the season, scoring one goals and supplying five assists in 19 appearances.

Everton fans will recognised the midfield enforcer after his side dumped the Merseyside club out of the Europa League, with the midfielder picking up an assist at Goodison Park.

Good move for Everton?

Barry is an upcoming talent that is impressing in the Croatian league with his powerful performances in the centre of the park and he also has a creative side to his game.

His tally of five assists highlight his desire to impact the game in the final third and he has been deployed as a playmaker at times this season.

Everton will be pondering whether he could make the step up in class to the Premier League and it would be a risk to take The Gambia international.

The Merseyside club do already have an overload of attacking midfielders and there priority should be bolstering the defence.

Likely to happen??

This deal appears a long way off happening as Everton are one of a few clubs monitoring Barry.

His £5million price tag is unlikely to deter Premier League teams, but Hajduk Split will surely be reluctant to sell a player they only signed on a permanent basis in the summer.

Everton fans are still awaiting the club to announce the next full-time manager and all transfer plans will be on hold until then.
