Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is to reignite his interest in Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose in the January window, according to The Sun.

Mourinho is a known admirer of the explosive left-sided flyer and Rose made waves with an explosive interview in the summer that fuelled talk of a move to Old Trafford.

The rumours seemed to die down a bit as the season started with Rose making his way back into first-team contention at Spurs, but now it seems Mourinho is once again keen on the England man.

The report claims that money could be an issue for United, and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is adamant he will not sell Rose to a rival.

The Sun’s source said: “It is not secret that Jose likes Rose. He is looking to make a move for him in January when the window opens.

“He could prove difficult to get though as Tottenham do not like dealing with United. It all depends on money at the end of the day.”

Good move for Manchester United?

Under Mauricio Pochettino, Rose has transformed from an average Premier League player into England’s best left-back.

His performances alongside Kyle Walker last season saw Spurs possess the most dangerous wing-back pairing in the league, and Rose is seemingly keen to follow Walker out the door in search of more money.

His explosive interview with The Sun in the summer confirmed this, but he seems to have knuckled down lately for Pochettino.

These new rumours however reignite talk of a move away, and United seem a likely destination, with Mourinho lacking for an out-and-out left back.

Likely to happen?

With Spurs chairman Daniel Levy around, any transfer takes some doing. Levy is one of the toughest negotiators in the country, and would be loathe to sell to a rival.

Nemanja Matic’s move from Chelsea to United illustrates the danger of doing so, with the Serbian transforming United’s midfield this season.

Pochettino will also be keen to keep Rose, especially at this point in the season, and a January move would therefore seem extremely unlikely.
