Rangers caretaker manager Graeme Murty has admitted that a swift conclusion to their search for a new boss ‘would be good for all involved.’

The Glasgow club has been without a permanent manager for nearly a month now, and the board seem no closer to appointing a successor to Pedro Caixinha.

Murty has taken on first-team duties since the sacking of the Caixinha after just 229 days in charge, the shortest managerial reign in Ibrox history.

The academy coach oversaw two wins in his first two games, including an impressive 3-1 away win over Hearts, putting him firmly in the frame to secure the job on a permanent basis.

However, 2-0 home loss to Hamilton last time out represented a big blow to his chances of securing the job on a permanent basis.

Despite this, Murty does still remain a frontrunner for the job, with SkyBet rating him as third-favourite, priced at 7/1. He sits behind Alex McLeish (11/10) and Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes (7/4).

Murty will remain in charge for the Light Blues’ trip to Dundee this Friday, but hopes that the board can end the uncertainty sooner rather than later.

As quoted by the Scottish Sun, Murty said: “It would be good for all involved if we had someone in place, whether that be me or someone else. But until that happens we are coping. We are actually moving forward.

“The players are working extremely hard. They are doing their bit – that’s all they can think about. I can’t think about it [the search for a new manager] either so if there is people outwith the club speculating and saying things, they can crack on.

“We’ll just make sure that things in-house are taken care of properly.”

OPINION

Murty has been nothing but a consummate professional since he took over caretaker duties 29 days ago, and it is hard to argue with his call for a swift conclusion to the search. The youth coach has got on with the task at hand admirably, and has try to stay away from speculation linking himself to the hot seat. While other names may remain the favourites to replace Caixinha, the way that Murty is getting on with the job must surely mean he is still in the frame. Yes, their defeat to Hamilton was a blow, but Rangers had 17 shots that day with only four on target. There is only so much a manager can do to prepare his team, and the rest comes down to the players themselves.
