Former Celtic favourite Simon Donnelly has hit back at Martin Keown after the BBC pundit’s criticism following the Hoops’ 7-1 loss to Paris St-Germain.
In his column for the Daily Mail, Keown was asked about PSG’s chances of winning the Champions League this year. He responded: “Twelve of those 24 goals were against Celtic (in 5-0 and 7-1 wins). It’s been a bit embarrassing for Celtic.
“A lot of the goals looked as if they were basic errors. Maybe it is because Celtic don’t get asked enough questions in the Scottish league. Maybe they don’t have to defend too much there. It’s a glaring issue.”
Donnelly has now hit back at Keown on Twitter, asking if he had forgotten Arsenal’s 10-2 aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich in the round of 16 last year, and calling the ex-Gunner ignorant for his views.
This guy forget Arsenal Munchen last year?? Ignorance towards the budget Celtic operate under! @martinkeown5 https://t.co/DAH3cSFDdU

OPINION
Donnelly is right in referencing Arsenal’s defeat to Bayern last year, as those two clubs are indeed closer in stature than Celtic and PSG. If you look at PSG’s other results in the Champions League this year, it is hard to see how a team like Celtic could stand a chance. They beat Anderlecht 4-0 away and 5-0 at home, and they even smashed Bayern 3-0. They have been embarrassing everyone they play in the competition, and to single out Celtic could be interpreted as ignorance from Keown.
