Rangers cruised past Aberdeen in Wednesday night’s Scottish Premiership clash with a comfortable 3-0 win at Ibrox that swept aside some of the misery that has formed a permanent cloud over the club for so long.

First-half goals from James Tavernier and Carlos Pena put Graeme Murty’s side in total control at the break before the right-back sealed the points with his second 20 minutes from time.

The victory ended a run of back-to-back defeats for the home side, and was also chastening for an Aberdeen team looking to strengthen their grasp on second place under manager Derek McInnes, who continues to be linked with the managerial vacancy at Ibrox.

The two sides meet again on Sunday at Pittodrie with Rangers looking to draw level on points with the Dons after climbing to third in the table and within three points of their visitors.

Interim manager Graeme Murty sprung a tactical surprise by changing to a diamond midfield and two strikers, and was repaid with arguably Rangers’ finest performance of the season to date.

Here, This Is Futbol looks at three things we learned from Rangers’ win over Aberdeen, including an enigma who has the potential to be an SPL sensation.
