International manager Ange Postecoglou is keen on the vacant managerial position at Rangers, according to ESPN.

The news website claims that the current Australia head coach is interested in the role at Ibrox.

It is understood that the 52-year-old will quit his position as the Australia boss immediately after the club’s World Cup play-off with Honduras, regardless of whether they qualify for the finals or not.

The report details that Postecoglou could become free as early as next week and the Gers will be keen to make a new permanent appointment during the international break.

Australia’s second leg of their qualifier against Honduras takes place next week on 15 November and he could leave his post immediately afterwards.

Rangers currently have Graeme Murray as caretaker boss, but are on the search for a full-time successor for recently departed Pedro Caixinha.

Postecoglou has seemingly thrown his name into the hat to become the new manager at the Scottish giants and has never worked in British football before.

He has been in charge of the Australia national team since 2013 and helped them win the Asian Cup in 2015, but looks set to go back into club management.

He has mainly had spells in the top flight of Australian football, but has also worked in his homeland Greece

OPINION

Rangers have taken risks before by bringing in coaches inexperienced in the Scottish league and Caixinha was a huge example of how it can go wrong. Postecoglou appears desperate to get back into club football, but there are much better options that the Gers should explore ahead of him. Current Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes would be a good fit at Ibrox to help the club move forward and has much more experience in the Scottish Premiership than the current Australia boss. McInnes appears ready to make the big next step in his career and could deal with the pressure of the Ibrox hotseat.
