Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight after Giovanni van Bronckhorst came from nowhere to be installed second favourite for the vacant manager position.

Sky Bet priced the Dutch all-time great at 6/4 on Wednesday afternoon to take the reins at Ibrox following a dramatic drop in his odds, leaving him behind only long-time favourite Derek McInnes (4/9).

The odds on the Feyenoord manager replacing Pedro Caixinha in the Rangers dugout have shortened from 25/1 in the last few days.

Van Bronckhorst spent three trophy-laden years at Rangers from 1998 until 2001, winning two titles two Scottish Cups and a League Cup under countryman Dick Advocaat in Glasgow.

The 42-year-old is currently in charge of Feyenoord, who he guided to the Eredivisie title last season in what was the Dutch side’s first league success in 18 years.

But Feyenoord languish sixth in the table after a poor start to the campaign, 12 points behind leaders PSV, and are bottom of their Champions League group after four consecutive defeats in the competition.

Nevertheless, Rangers fans are excited at the sudden drop in the price of Van Bronckhorst and a section took to social media to claim they would prefer him to Derek McInnes.
