Stan Collymore has made a comparison between David Moyes and  Gheorghe Hagi in an attempt to show that the former should not be appointed the next West Ham manager.

This comes after Sky Sports reported that the former Everton and Manchester United boss is set to become the next man in charge of the East London club with the next 24 hours.

Despite enjoying a fantastic 11-year spell at Goodison Park, the Scot has endured a torrid time in management, failing to finish his first season at Old Trafford and relegating Sunderland from the Premier League last season.

The Hammers decided to sack Slaven Bilic on Monday morning with the team sitting in the bottom three of the Premier League, having conceded 23 goals in the process – the worst defensive record in the top-flight.

With Moyes destined to take over, he will face a tough task after the international break when the Hammers travel to Vicarage Road to play against Watford.

Writing in his column for the Mirror, Collymore is convinced that Moyes is the wrong man for the job as he is out of touch with game which is in comparison to former Barcelona star Hagi.

“Slaven Bilic is toast – and David Moyes will be a toxic replacement,” he wrote.

“But David Moyes is such a flat, dejected type character that will never get a chance if he has two or three bad results.

“By contrast I went to Romania last week to interview the great Gheorghe Hagi for The Stan Collymore Show and I was very fortunate to have dinner with him.

“He has an academy Viitorul Constanta, started it eight years ago, turned them into the champions of Romania last year over the country’s other big spenders like Steaua Bucharest.

“He knows every player this side of Sydney, because he has to know everybody, to know where the bargains are.

“Moyes looked the opposite. Like a man who was relying on his name, who looked deflated and dejected.”

OPINION

One can imagine that the majority of West Ham supporters wouldn’t have been inspired to hear that the club are set to appoint Moyes as Bilic’s successor. The Scot looks to have lost his way in management and taking his recent disappointments into consideration, he is very fortunate to even be considered for the job in East London. It will be fascinating to see how summer signing Javier Hernandez reacts to his potential appointment as Moyes didn’t appear to be the biggest fan of the Mexican during his time at United. Although he has completely slammed his managerial ability, Collymore is right to be a little concerned for the Hammers with Moyes in charge.
