Bilic: I have been inundated with manager offers

|

Slaven Bilic has revealed in the Evening Standard that he has been inundated with managerial offers since being axed by West Ham.

The Croatian was dismissed on Monday by the Hammers after they had slipped into the bottom three of the Premier League following their weekend defeat to Liverpool.

The club have appointed former Manchester United and Everton boss David Moyes as the replacement for Bilic, who has insisted that he is looking to take a well-earned rest before taking on his next managerial challenge in 2018.

“I am going to have a break with the family now,” the former Croatia, Besiktas, Lokomotiv Moscow and Hajduk Split boss told the Standard. “I don’t want to jump straight back into something.

“Last year – and even now – I have had calls from clubs in other countries, but I want to rest a little bit.

“I want to stay in London with the family and maybe go home to Croatia before the end of the year.

“I can’t see myself doing anything before next January at the earliest but then we will see what is happening. There is no rush.”

OPINION

Little wonder that Bilic has been inundated with offers. He is a highly capable manager who guided West Ham to ninth and 11th placed finishes in his two full seasons at the helm. The 49-year-old managed the Croatia national team with great success for six years, and also led Besiktas to third in the Turkish league in 2014-15. He is multi-lingual, charismatic and has a track record of inspiring players, particularly younger ones. He won’t be out of work for long.
