Danny Murphy has claimed that Tottenham should sign Leicester magician Riyad Mahrez and that he would be a perfect fit for their team.

The Telegraph reported back in May that Spurs were one of the teams that were interested in snapping up the 26-year-old during last summer’s transfer window.

It was understood that the Foxes were holding out for £30million-plus for their skilful winger and he ended up staying at the King Power Stadium.

BBC pundit Murphy has explained that the attacking midfielder is exactly the type of player that Spurs should look to sign.

“He’d suit Tottenham. They need someone like him. They need someone who can add a bit of dynamism to their team,” Murphy said on BBC One programme Match of the Day.

Spurs suffered directly at the hands of Mahrez in midweek as his Leicester team won 2-1 at the King Power Stadium in the Premier League.

Jamie Vardy opened the scoring for the Foxes with a brilliant chip, before Mahrez scored a spectacular left-footed effort which flew into the top corner.

The Algeria international is recognised for his brilliant individual skill and he won the PFA Player of the Year award in 2016 during Leicester’s title winning season.

He has been in strong form so far this campaign, scoring four goals and supplying five assists during 15 appearances.

OPINION

Mahrez showed Spurs first hand his quality in midweek and when he is on form he is one of the hardest players in the Premier League to stop. The winger was touted with an elite move to Barcelona following the heroics he achieved with Leicester and is now beginning to rediscover his best form after the comedown. Spurs do already have a brilliant squad at their disposal, but don’t necessarily have a tricky wide man that can stretch the play. Erik Lamela’s return from a long-term injury could help them in that respect, but there is no doubting that Mahrez would be a fantastic addition to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.
