Christian Eriksen has revealed that Tottenham’s star players do not want to leave because of the stability Mauricio Pochettino has brought to the club.

Spurs have secured Premier League finishes of second, third and fifth in the last three seasons and are once again in the title mix this season as well as already qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages..

Every first-team player bar Toby Alderweireld and Victor Wanyama has been rewarded with at least one improved contract since last summer and Eriksen explained that Tottenham is a perfect place for a player thanks to the manager.

“He has given stability not only to me but to the whole club,” Eriksen told Sky Sports, as quoted by their website. “That’s the main thing for a player. You feel comfortable, you feel aware of everything around you and you don’t think about anything other than football when you’re on the pitch.

“All the players have long-term contracts. They feel safe being here. It’s why you commit your future to a place like this.

He added: “[Pochettino] gives his players a lot of confidence and he trusts to let them play.

“I have played a lot of games under the manager now. He knows what I’m good for and what I’m not good for but he trusts me completely.

“You feel that trust and it makes you want to do everything for him.

“We are young lads who want to develop and be even better in the future and play as many games as possible. Of course there is competition for places but it’s different to other clubs where you have very experienced players coming in. It’s a good young group and we all want the same thing.”

On Tuesday night, Eriksen scored a hat-trick as Denmark secured their place at next summer’s World Cup finals, with a convincing 5-1 victory away to the Republic of Ireland.

OPINION

It is clear that Pochettino has created something special at Spurs that all the players are buying into. There is plenty of talk of elite-club interest in star men such as Eriksen, Harry Kane and Dele Alli, but the big guns would be crazy to walk away from Tottenham as they stand on the threshold of achieving some glorious things. The next step is a trophy or an extended Champions League run. Given what the Argentine alchemist has created, don’t bet against any of these happening this season.
