RB Leipzig sporting director Ralf Rangnick is the new favourite to become the next Everton manager, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

SkyBet priced Rangnick, 59, at 2/1 on Friday morning to replace Ronald Koeman in the Goodison Park hotseat, capping what has been a dramatic slash in the odds.

The German mastermind has now leapfrogged Watford manager Marco Silva (9/4) in the betting, as well as caretaker boss David Unsworth (4/1) and other candidates Sam Allardyce (6/1), Louis van Gaal (7/1) and Sean Dyche (8/1).

Rangnick has extensive experience in Germany, managing Stuttgart, Hannover, Schalke and Hoffenheim before his move to RB Leipzig.

He was 6/1 on Wednesday to take the Goodison reigns, while on Tuesday he was not even priced among the top 20 candidates for the job, with odds going as high as 33/1 on Roberto Mancini.

OPINION

Rangnick is a fascinating candidate. He has an impressive track record of invigorating small clubs such as Hoffenheim and Leipzig and establishing them as major players in the Bundesliga and across Europe. Rangnick has a knack of finding hidden gems and polishing them into diamonds, with imminent Liverpool arrival Naby Keita one shining example. His wide skill set makes him attractive, but the German mastermind has never managed outside of Germany and Austria. A gamble, or a potentially brilliant coup? If Leipzig get their way, we will never know, as they are keen to fend off Everton interest and tie Rangnick down to a new contract.
