Reported Everton target Ralf Rangnick has agreed the terms of a new contract with RB Leipzig, it has been confirmed.

The 59-year-old Leipzig sporting director, has been strongly been linked with the vacancy at Goodison Park in recent days.

The Sun reported last Thursday that Everton were “ready” to make him their new manager and he was the bookmakers’ favourite for the post for much of last week.

But a move now seems unlikely after Leipzig announced on their official website on Sunday that Rangnick had extended his stay at the Bundesliga club until June 2021.

Rangnick began his current role at Leipzig in 2012 and had a spell as the club’s manager in the 2015-16 campaign.

With Everton yet to announce a replacement for Ronald Koeman, Rangnick had been touted for a possible switch back to coaching.

He has overseen an impressive spell at the Bundesliga club and now works with head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl, the man he employed.

OPINION

Rangnick is a fascinating candidate, but he is surely not going to get the job now. By agreeing a new deal at Leipzig, the German has nailed his colours firmly to the mast of the Bundesliga outfit, who he has been central to establishing as a major player in the Bundesliga and across Europe. Everton would have done well to get Rangnick, given his impressive CV, eye for spotting unpolished diamonds and Leipzig’s current exalted status, which has taken them to second position in the Bundesliga.
