Goalkeeper Luke O’Reilly has agreed the terms of a contract with Tottenham, according to the Football Association.

New documents registered with the governing body show that the keeper, 21, was officially registered as a Spurs player on 9 September.

There has been no announcement from Tottenham about a deal for O’Reilly, who does not have a profile on the official Spurs website.

But paperwork on the official FA website shows that an agreement was reached for the former Cardiff and Redditch keeper to start his association with Tottenham more than two months ago.

O’Reilly has been playing for the Tottenham Under-21s, and was an unused substitute in their 2-1 defeat to Barnet on Tuesday night as Under-23s regular Alfie Whiteman started in goal.

O’Reilly’s personal Twitter account names him as a Spurs player, but there was no announcement of his arrival earlier in the year from the club.

OPINION

Despite the lack of fanfare for O’Reilly’s arrival – which is not that unusual at Tottenham for youth-team players – the club have made it clear by handing him a contract that they regard him as an asset. The question is, do the Londoners regard the teenager as a future first teamer at Tottenham, or will he follow ex-Spurs keeper Luke McGee in carving out a career in the lower leagues. McGee joined Portsmouth permanently in the summer after a successful loan spell at Peterborough, and the next year or two will be critical in mapping out O’Reilly’s career path. Even the coaches at Spurs might not be sure yet in which direction he will go, but the young Englishman has showed promise and trained with England for a week during a camp at St George’s Park in June.
