Arsenal are to revive their interest in Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling, with the winger potentially part of a swap deal for Alexis Sanchez, according to the Daily Mail.

Arsene Wenger was interested in bringing the England winger to the Emirates in the summer amid City’s interest in Sanchez, but both players stayed put.

Now, with Sanchez’s exit seemingly inevitable, Arsenal are looking for options to replace him, and have revived their interest in the in-form speed machine Sterling.

Sterling has been in brilliant form for Pep Guardiola this season, scoring 10 goals as he has become a key figure at the Etihad.

Good move for Arsenal?

While Sterling wouldn’t exactly be a like-for-like replacement for Sanchez, he would still bring the qualities that Arsenal are lacking up front. His pace and trickery down the wing would provide Wenger with the service he desires for his strikers, and Sterling’s new-found goalscoring form would provide a nice boost in the wake of Sanchez’s departure. However, that goalscoring form has been for City, a team who have rampaged straight through all opposition this season, and it might not manifest itself in another system or with another squad.

Likely to happen?

Before this season, one would have been inclined to say yes. While Guardiola did indeed refuse to sell Sterling in the summer, no one could have predicted the speedster’s red-hot form this season. Now Guardiola will be even less inclined to let him go. However, the lure of Sanchez may be too strong, and if Arsenal insist on Sterling as part of any deal, then there is a possibility of this move going through.
