Liverpool midfielder is reportedly set to leave Anfield and complete a move to Premier League rivals Manchester City next summer.

The Daily Star claims that the 23-year-old has decided to rebuff Serie A giants Juventus in order to seal a summer deal to the Etihad Stadium on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The newspaper reports that Italian champions are consigned to missing out on him to City.

Good move for Liverpool?

This is set to be a massive blow for the Reds because Can’s potential departure to join Pep Guardiola could strengthen their rivals next season.

Since making the switch to Merseyside three years ago, the Germany international has showed incredible improvement and he has become a regular starter under manager Jurgen Klopp.

Can has made 15 appearances for the Reds this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists in all competitions.

The midfielder’s loss will be felt but it will leave a sour taste in the club’s mouth if he decides to seal a summer move to City.

Liverpool would have preferred Can to move to Italy but if he manages to secure a regular place in the City starting eleven, it could can back and haunt the Reds in the long-term.

It is debatable whether it is the best move for the player himself given the talented midfield options already in Manchester who cannot hold down a regular place in the side.

Likely to happen?

With the report mentioning that Guardiola sees Can as the perfect replacement for out-of-favour man Yaya Toure, it is highly plausible to imagine the midfielder plying his trade in Manchester next season.

It is also reported that Can is very friendly with City speedster Leroy Sane which only adds more fire to the fuel regarding to a potential summer move to the Etihad.

The German’s head also might be turned completely if City continue their sensational form in the Premier League and make progression in the Champions League this season.
