Liverpool will move to replace manager Jurgen Klopp if they don’t win a trophy this season, according to a reliable journalist.

Duncan Castles, who writes for the Sunday Times and the Daily Record, claimed that the Reds will sack Klopp if they miss out on Champions League football or win any silverware.

Speaking on the Transfer Window podcast, Castles said: “Liverpool will twist if Klopp fails to get Champions League football or win a trophy this season – which is looking a distinct possibility.”

He also went on to offer his own opinion on who they should bring in to replace the German.

“If I was Liverpool, I would try to hire Marco Silva as his replacement,” he said.

OPINION

While Klopp is much-loved in the Red half of Merseyside, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see him go if Liverpool fail to finish in the top four or win a trophy this year. While the German has turned Liverpool into a more attractive footballing side, his failure to shore up a leaky defence has meant his record as Reds boss is actually very similar to his predecessors. Failure to cement their place in the top four after spending years in the wilderness would be criminal, and Klopp may pay a heavy price if that happens. However, Klopp’s popularity among the Liverpool fans may just be enough to see him keep his job for one more year, as the project he is building does certainly have great potential.
