Liverpool have received a massive fitness boost as long-term absentee Adam Lallana is reportedly on the road to recovery.

The Times claims that the 29-year-old is set to feature in a training ground match at Melwood on Tuesday evening as he looks to bounce back from a thigh injury.

The newspaper reports that a number of first-team regulars will feature in this training matchup including Daniel Sturridge, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Danny Ings and James Milner.

The England international is yet to feature for the Reds this season as he suffered a setback during the pre-season.

The Merseyside club have managed to cope well in his absence as they currently sit in fifth position in the league table.

However, Lallana was one of the club’s most consistent players last season, contributing with eight goals and seven assists in all competitions, helping the team qualify for the Champions League for the first time in three years.

OPINION

Not only is Lallana’s step up in recovery fantastic news for Liverpool, it is also very encouraging for the England national team. The midfielder started to finally find his feet at Anfield last season and although the Reds have still maintained their attacking threat in his absence, they are still going to benefit massively when he finally returns from injury. The player himself will be desperate to gain match fitness as quickly as possible in order to put himself into contention for next year’s World Cup in Russia. Lallana could potentially help the Reds push for a consecutive top-four finish and also help them progress further into the latter stages of the Champions League.
