Jurgen Klopp has revealed that the senior three members of Liverpool’s recruitment team persuaded him to sanction the summer signing of Mohamed Salah ahead of 20 other players.

Salah has made a huge impact since joining the Merseyside giants for £37million in the summer.

He has scored 12 goals from 17 matches from a wide forward role and once again showed his worth with a superbly-taken double in Liverpool’s 4-1 win at West Ham on Saturday.

Liverpool manager Klopp is delighted that the recruitment chief and senior scouts convinced him Salah was the right man to pursue.

“We were sure he can help us,” Klopp told Liverpool’s official website. “Michael Edwards, Dave Fallows and Barry [Hunter], they were really in my ear and were on it: ‘Come on, come on, Mo Salah, he’s the solution’.

“When you have 20 players on the table, different players, it’s difficult to make an early decision.

“But we all were convinced about it so could make the early decision so we could really get him. He’s a fantastic person, a nice lad and a really good football player.”

OPINION

Liverpool spectacularly failed in their bid to recruit a top-class centre-back during the summer, but Edwards and company showed once again they have an eye for potentially brilliant forwards who can thrive under Klopp. 2016 arrival Sadio Mane has been a sensational signing, and Salah has showed he can end up being an equally excellent acquisition. No Liverpool player has scored more that 14 goals in a season since Luis Suarez quit in 2014. Salah could trump that figure before we put up our Christmas trees.
