Ralf Rangnick has become the latest name thrown into the mix for the Everton job after odds tumbled on the German taking the reins at Goodison Park.

The 59-year-old is currently employed as sporting director at Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, who he previously led to the top flight as manager.

SkyBet have suddenly placed Rangnick as third favourite in the search for the next Everton manager, with Watford’s Marco Silva still leading the way ahead of caretaker David Unsworth.

Silva is currently priced as favourite at 8/11 to take the job, with Unsworth on 7/2 and Rangnick now sitting behind them at 4/1.

Rangnick has extensive experience in Germany, managing Stuttgart, Hannover, Schalke and Hoffenheim before his move to RB Leipzig.

On Tuesday, Rangnick wasn’t even priced among the top 20 candidates for the job, with odds going as high as 33/1 on Roberto Mancini.

OPINION

Rangnick is a strange and unexpected addition to a manager search that is now quite frankly dragging on. The Everton board have been looking for Koeman’s replacement for over a month now, and it seems as though new names are being added every few days. Rangnick’s however is a surprise, as he has no experience at all of English football. While his portfolio is undoubtedly impressive, it would be a shock to see the Toffees hire someone who has spent the last year as a sporting director in Germany, and has no great success at the very top level.
