Jamie Carragher has claimed on Twitter that the arrivals of  Sam Allardyce and Sammy Lee at Everton will catapult them up the league.

Allardyce is at Finch Farm this afternoon in order to finalise the deal that will see him replace Ronald Koeman as the Toffees next permanent manager.

The club confirmed the news in a statement on their official website, and Allardyce is expected to be announced as manager before their game with West Ham on Wednesday evening.

Liverpool legend Carragher delivered his verdict on Twitter, and also commented on the possibility that Sammy Lee will be brought in as part of Allardyce’s team.

The Toffees have been without a manager since the sacking of Ronald Koeman on the 23rd of October following a 5-2 defeat by Arsenal at home, and David Unsworth has overseen first team duties for the last five weeks.

Unsworth has been unable to prevent Everton from a horrific run of form that has seen them slide down to 16th in the Premier League, and exit both the Europa League and the EFL Cup.

OPINION

After so much huffing and puffing, it seems that the Everton manager search is finally over. Have Everton settled on the right man? Is Carragher right? Well, in the situation that the Toffees now find themselves, with the threat of relegation very real, then you would tend to agree. The worst thing that could happen to any club is relegation, but that reality would be much worse for Everton than many other relegation contenders. The board spent massive amounts of money in the summer, and their wage bill is most likely in the top eight in the league. To go down with finances like that would spell disaster, and so Allardyce would indeed seem a solid appointment.
