Chelsea are sweating over the fitness of Tiemoue Bakayoko after he broke down in training at the club today (Friday), according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim that the central midfielder, 23, was left “grimacing in pain” after limping off the pitch early to hand manager Antonio Conte another major injury concern.

The Sun report that Bakayoko pulled up in “agony” as he was going through his own personal fitness work with sprint shuttles away from the rest of the squad.

It is said he “hobbled away back to the dressing room for treatment” and Chelsea are anxiously awaiting an update.

It is another concern for Conte, who has lost N’Golo Kante, Victor Moses, Danny Drinkwater and Alvaro Morata to muscle injuries in recent weeks, although three of the four have returned to action.

OPINION

Bakayoko has settled in well at Chelsea following his £40million transfer from Monaco and the club can ill afford to lose him for any length of time. The one-time France international has started the majority of the Blues’ matches and demonstrated his calibre with a rock-solid central midfield display alongside N’Golo Kane in Sunday’s deserved win against Manchester United. Bakayoko is also a soldier after regularly playing through the pain barrier following knee surgery in the summer.
