Newcastle United scouts reportedly watched the Ligue 1 clash between Bordeaux and Marseille on Sunday, where midfielder Morgan Sanson scored a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw.

Twitter account Scouts in Attendance, who have built up a reputation for informing the whereabouts of club’s scouts, report that there were Newcastle representatives at the French domestic clash.

Marseille ace Sanson starred for the visitors with a late goal and he should become a January priority for the Magpies to try sign.

The 23-year-old has been in superb form this campaign for Marseille and has scored seven times in 19 appearances across all competitions.

He could be the missing link for Rafael Benitez’s side, who desperately need to find some extra goals from midfield positions.

Newcastle fans are hopeful that the widely speculated takeover at St James’ Park happens before the January window and that the manager is given a transfer kitty to bring in top talent.

If that becomes the case they need to go all out to land Marseille’s French talent.

Sanson is a central midfielder by trade and can also be deployed in a number 10 position where he can be a real goal threat.

The creative force is exactly the type of player needed to add some attacking intent to the side, where he could form a brilliant partnership alongside Jonjo Shelvey and Mikel Merino in midfield.

He managed a brilliant tally of 14 assists last season to show the levels he can reach and appears to have the intelligence that would suit the Premier League.

Newcastle have hopes of establishing themselves back in the top flight and are perhaps two or three elite players away from doing so.

Sanson would come at a big cost and he is under contract until 2021 with Marseille, but Newcastle must try to bring him to English football where he could become a real force.
