Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani took to Twitter on Tuesday night to explain that he understands the fans’ frustrations after the team slipped to their sixth defeat from seven matches in all competitions.

United squandered an early lead to lose 2-1 to Derby at Elland Road, which was their fifth defeat from six league fixtures.

It resulted in Gary Rowett’s team leapfrogging Leeds in the Championship standings as they fell to sixth position in another dent to their promotion hopes.

Supporters expressed their frustration and disappointment on social media, which prompted Radrizzani to respond on his personal Twitter account and offer his own perspective.

The Italian businessman claimed that he is aware of the “disappointment” but insisted he is “proud” of the Leeds teams and that they were unlucky to have walked away empty handed against the Rams.

OPINION

At which point does an extended blip become a crisis? Maybe right about now, some Leeds fans might suggest. Radrizzani is emerging as a sensible owner who doesn’t do knee-jerk reactions, which is to his great credit and will only benefit the club in the long run. But there is reason for concern. Leeds were top of the Championship table in September after a brilliant run of form are now just three points away from 14th-placed Sheffield Wednesday, one of the many sides they have lost against in the las month. It has been a truly wretched October, which the fans will be glad to see the back of.
