Leeds United are set to hold talks about signing teenage Norwegian striker Abdul-Basit Agouda, according to a reliable journalist.

Sky Sports and Guardian journalist Will Unwin reported on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday morning that the 19-year-old is on his way to England to negotiate with a number of clubs about a transfer.

Unwin explained that Leeds are in the mix to land Stromgodset forward Agouda, who almost signed for Brighton in January when they were still in the Championship.

Agouda, whose current deal expires at the end of the year, has rejected a new contract at his club and has been demoted to the reserve team, where he is now the top scorer.

It means that Leeds could nab him in January for a small compensation fee and Football Insider reported last month that he is keen on a move to England.

A good move for Leeds?

The striker has been compared to Bournemouth’s Josh King because of his strength, pace and eye for goal. He has a fine track record for the Norway age-group sides and will be available for a small compensation fee. This has ‘smart deal’ written all over it. It is testament to Agouda’s calibre that a number of clubs are battling for his signature and that he nearly joined Brighton last winter.

Likely to happen?

There is competition for Agouda, but Leeds have invested heavily in young talent since Andrea Radrizzani took sole charge in May, and should have a good chance of capturing the teenager. A key factor is that the United owner has been willing to offer long-term deals to both senior and emerging players at the clubs, with striker Jack Clarke penning a four-year contract on his birthday last week.
