Leeds United managing director Angus Kinnear has held talks with a supporters group over implementing a fan ownership model at the club.

Leeds Fans United, a group set up to pursue fan ownership at the club, released a statement on their website confirming that discussions had been held with Kinnear.

LFU was founded in 2015 with the aim of securing a minority stake at the club, and thereby gaining fan representation on the board.

It states: “The approach that we created specifically for Leeds nearly three years ago is still unique and one that fits with Andrea Radrizzani’s ethos as owner of the club.

“While we are in agreement that fan ownership can work at Leeds United, there is more work to be done to determine exactly what this will look like.

“We will provide an update for shareholders when we have more information to share.”

OPINION

This is an interesting development in the shambles that is the recent ownership of Leeds United. While the drama seemingly ended with Radrizzani buying out Cellino, who knows what the future holds for the Elland Road club. Fan ownership is a noble concept, but has yet to take hold at the top level of the English game. However, the relatively small aims of Leeds Fans United, namely to secure representation on the board, do seem achievable. It is now down to Radrizzani to decide whether that is something he wants for his club.
