A Leeds United fan gave his cap tp Felix Wiedwald to protect his eyes from the sun in the first half of the team’s Championship clash against Barnsley on Saturday – and supporters took to Twitter to express their delight with some amusing reactions.

Wiedwald was recalled to the Leeds starting XI for the trip to Oakwell after missing seven consecutive league matches.

Manager Thomas Christiansen reacted to the midweek mauling at Wolves by axing Andy Lonergan and turning back to the goalkeeper who spent the first two months of the campaign in the side.

Wiedwald kept a clean sheet in the opening period as Leeds went into the break 2-0 ahead through goals from Samuel Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski.

The first half was memorable for when a Leeds fan spotted the German shielding his eyes from the low winter sun and reacted by walking down to the bottom of the stand, leaning over the advertising hoarding and handing the goalkeeper his cap.

It was gratefully received by Wiedwald, who offered his thanks and slapped the garment straight on to his head.

Leeds fans enjoyed the moment and reacted with some amusing comments on social media, although a few pointed out that the keeper should have been better prepared.
