Aston Villa midfielder Mile Jedinak is facing the prospect of three months out if he has to undergo shoulder surgery, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claim on their website that the Australia international has seen a specialist about the injury that forced him off the field after just 26 minutes of Villa’s 2-0 win over Ipswich last weekend.

Sky report that Jedinak is facing three months on the sidelines if his shoulder problem requires surgery, although that timeframe will be reduced to six weeks if he does not need an operation.

OPINION

It’s bad enough to lose Jedinak for six weeks, but three months would be a shattering blow. The tough nut Aussie is 33 and at the veteran stage of his career, but he is a key member of the Palace squad, not just because of his on-pitch skills but his leadership and experience. Jedinak is the captain of Australia and has just led his country to the World Cup, and his vast Premier League experience from his Palace days would have been massively helpful to Steve Bruce as the matches come thick and fast for Villa either side of the Christmas period. Already deprived of long-term absentees John Terry and Jonathan Kodjia, Villa can ill afford to lose any more key men.
