Aston Villa starlet Keinan Davis may have no say in his future if a big club come calling, according to his former manager.

Davis has committed his next three years to Villa with a new deal last week, after becoming a key figure for Steve Bruce this season with 16 appearances in all competitions.

Davis’ former boss at Biggleswade FC, Dave Northfield, insists Davis is happy at Villa Park, but admitted that his future may lie elsewhere amid recent interest from Premier League clubs.

Speaking to The Daily Star, Northfield said: “I don’t think, at this stage at Villa, that he wants to go anywhere. He’s comfortable. I think he’s happy. But it’s different if a big club comes in and offers money. He may have no choice in that.

“He’s not a lad that’s saying: ‘I should be playing for Chelsea or Man Utd’. He’s happy at Villa and loving it there. But you don’t get a choice in that sort of stuff.”

Northfield did however voice his hopes that Davis could indeed make the move up to the Premier League in the future.

“I hope so. He looks confident enough to make it. He’s different. Is he there yet? No, but he’s only 19. If he keeps his head down and working hard and listening, which I’m confident he is, I think the world’s his oyster,” he said.

OPINION

Davis has certainly begun to stamp his mark at Villa after arriving from non-league Biggleswade in 2015. Since his debut in the FA Cup last season, Davis has transformed into a key player for Steve Bruce at Villa, and has been duly rewarded with his new contract. While still raw, the interest from United and Arsenal shows that Davis is highly-thought of in England, and a potential move to the Premier League could materialise in the future. However, Davis has most likely made the best decision for himself by committing to Villa. The first-team minutes he gets under Bruce will help him develop into a better player than if he were to waste away in a Premier League youth side, and if Davis plays well enough at Villa this season then he may find himself playing in the Premier League next year anyway.
