Steve Bruce has revealed that Aston Villa talisman Mile Jedinak is facing an uncertain spell on the sidelines with a shoulder injury.

Jedinak was forced off the field after just 26 minutes of Villa’s 2-0 win over Ipswich, prompting fears that he may have aggravated a groin injury sustained in the summer.

But it has been revealed that the Australian international skipper has suffered a shoulder injury and will be rested for the foreseeable future.

Speaking to the press ahead of Villa’s Friday night Championship clash with Leeds, Bruce confirmed that Jedinak is set for a spell on the sidelines.

Jedinak will rest and hope the injury heals on its own, but if not he will be forced to have surgery which would see him out for a longer period.

As quoted by the Birmingham Mail in their live blog (11:49), Bruce said: “We have been dealt a cruel blow with injuries. Grealish and Kodjia, Lansbury is just coming back. John Terry, and now Mile last week. When there are cracks and fractures of bones, it is tough.

“Mile is seeing a specialist, but the advice is to rest. He has to see if it starts to heal itself. We hope that resting it in a sling will be all that is needed.”

OPINION

News of Jedinak’s injury will be a big blow to Villa as they look to continue this brilliant run of form that has seen them climb well into the promotion picture. The big Australian is a key member of this Villa squad, not just because of his footballing skills but because of his leadership and experience. Jedinak has just led his country to the World Cup and has vast Premier League experience at Crystal Palace. That kind of player will be crucial to a team that is looking to make it back into the big time. It will now be a nervous wait to see if Jedinak needs surgery, and if he does, then Villa need someone to step up and become a talisman for the team.
