BBC pundit Danny Murphy has heaped huge praise on Tottenham defender Danny Rose and claimed that he makes a “huge difference” when playing in the first-team.

The 27-year-old featured for 90 minutes for the first time in the Champions League this season as Spurs managed to seal the top spot in their group with a 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund in midweek.

However, the defender was left out of the matchday squad to face Arsenal in the North London derby last weekend and Rose admitted that he was “fuming” following his omission.

The England international has only featured in four matches for Tottenham this season as he looks to regain full fitness from a horrendous knee injury suffered last season.

Writing in his column for the Evening Standard, Murphy was quick to single out Rose for praise and he is adamant that his anger of missing the match against Arsenal is a good sign for the club.

“I like the honesty that Rose showed when he said he was fuming not to be playing last weekend,” he wrote.

“If he did want a move that much and he did not care about Tottenham, then he would not mind.

“And Tottenham are a better team with him in the side, no doubt about it, and I think the fans know that.

“He is definitely their best option in that position, either left-back or pushing further forward.

“He makes a huge difference when he plays. And if he cares, then everyone is happy.”

OPINION

Over the last couple of seasons, Rose has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the country. Although Tottenham have managed to cope without him both domestically and in Europe this season, when he is fully fit, he will definitely help Spurs push for the major trophies. Murphy is spot on when he mentions that Spurs fan shouldn’t be too concerned about Rose’s recent interview as it demonstrates that he still wants to feature for the club in the biggest matches. With the World Cup in Russia on the horizon, Rose will be desperate to prove himself in North London this season but there is every chance that he could leave the club next summer if he doesn’t see any improvements in terms of silverware.
