Arsenal fans have slammed Mathieu Debuchy after the Frenchman’s performance during their 1-0 loss to Cologne in the Europa League.

The France internationa conceded the penalty that saw Cologne take the lead, and Arsenal were unable to find a way back into the game after that.

Debuchy was playing in only his fourth game for the Gunners this season, with all his appearances coming in the Europa League and EFL Cup.

The Gunners had already sealed their passage into the round of 32 with their draw last time out against Red Star Belgrade, but Cologne secured an important win to take them level with the Serbian side in second.

Red Star’s failure to beat BATE Borisov meant that Arsenal now go through as Group H winners.

Debuchy has struggled to make an impact at the Gunners since returning from a loan to Bordeaux last year, and that showed as he put in a poor performance against Cologne.

The 32-year-old joined the Gunners in 2014, after an impressive spell in the North East with Newcastle saw him coveted by several big clubs.

He has however struggled in an Arsenal shirt, making just 26 appearances for the Gunners in three years.

Much of this has been down to injury, with the Frenchman suffering several bad knocks while in north London, and his career has suffered massively for it.

The right-back has 27 appearances for his national side, but has not played for Les Bleus in two years.
