Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Danny Ings from Liverpool when the transfer window opens in January – and fans of the Yorkshire giants have taken to Twitter to express their excitement.

The Football Whispers section of ESPN FC claim that the one-time England international, 25, is a firm target of the Championship promotion hopefuls as they eye promotion to the top flight after a 13-year wait.

Ings’ two-year spell at Anfield has been ruined by two serious knee injuries and he has appeared for only 17 minutes in the senior side in the last 11 months after making his comeback in Liverpool’s League Cup defeat to Leicester two weeks ago.

But the striker netted 43 times in 130 matches for Burnley before joining Liverpool in the summer of 2015 for a compensation fee that a tribunal set at £8million.

Ings is contracted to Liverpool until 2020 and it has been reported that he could be allowed to leave on loan in January in order to build up his fitness and play first-team football.

Leeds fans are excited at the prospect of their club trying to sign a forward who is proven in the Championship and has such an impressive pedigree.
