Aston Villa are currently scouting Aberdeen goalkeeper Joe Lewis, according to the Scottish Sun.
The newspaper claims that the Championship side sent representatives to watch the 30-year-old in action at the weekend.
It is understood manager Steve Bruce is keeping his options open in goal as current number one Sam Johnstone is only on loan from Manchester United.
Lewis has been in brilliant form for Scottish club Aberdeen and has conceded just one goal in his last five league games.
The 6ft 5in defensive colossus has become a key player for the Dons since his arrival in 2016 and the goalkeeper is under contract until 2020 after signing a new deal in the summer.
Good move for Villa?
Lewis has improved his game hugely in the past 18 months at Aberdeen and is now a key player for them.
The shot stopper is a big vocal presence at the back and he edge out Celtic’s Craig Gordon for a place in the Scottish team of the season last year.
Lewis would add some strong competition for Villa if he arrived at the Midlands giants and deserves another crack in English football.
However, the former England Under-21 international has just one Premier League appearance under his belt and is not a big-name signing that Villa fans would like.
Bruce does need to solve his goalkeeping issue ahead of next season with Johnstone on loan, but in truth they don’t need Lewis this season and he may not be strong enough to deliver in the Premier League if promotion is achieved.

This deal is still a long way off happening right now and Aberdeen could hold out for a big transfer fee as Lewis only agreed a new deal in the summer.
Villa will need a number one goalkeeper in mind ahead of next season with Johnstone set to return to Old Trafford and scouts have been sent to monitor Lewis.
He will have impressed Villa with his sensational form this season, but a potential move back to England seems unlikely.
