Liverpool are interested in signing Sheffield United youngster David Brooks, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim that the Reds are showing an interest in the 20-year-old and that Premier League rivals Everton are also keen.

It is understood that Championship side Sheffield United want to hand the attacking midfielder a new mega contract in order to keep him at Bramall Lane and deter interest.

Brooks is a Manchester City reject after being a member of their academy at a young age, but he fail to make a senior appearance for the senior side and has enjoyed success elsewhere.

Good move for Liverpool?

Brooks is certainly an excitant talent emerging in the Championship and is part of a Sheffield United side that are surprisingly third in the league table.

The youngster has been an important player so far and made three assists in 11 appearances across all competitions.

He usually plays in the number 10 role and has just earned his first senior international call up for Wales.

It is positive that Liverpool are monitoring young British talents and Jurgen Klopp has shown he is wiling to give these types of player a chance.

However, he would not break into the first team of the Merseyside club anytime soon and senior defenders should be a transfer priority.

Likely to happen?

Brooks has become a senior member of the Sheffield United squad and it would seem strange if he would want to leave that to link up with Liverpool’s youth team.

He is developing immensely under manager Chris Wilder, who has also made it crystal clear the player is not for sale.

“He won’t be going anywhere [in January]. We’ve said that all along,” Wilder said, as quoted by the Sun.

“We are building something here. There are always casualties along the way when you do that and, yes, we are already looking to January ourselves.”

This is a clear indication that Brooks is likely to stay at Bramall Lane, but there is always the chance that the appeal of a Premier League giant could tempt the player.
