Everton will not make a move to sign Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud in January, according to the Daily Star.

The newspaper claim that the Toffees are not interested in the 31-year-old and are keeping their options open as they look to improve their attacking options.

The Mirror have previously reported that Everton are lining up a mega £40million swoop for the France international in January.

However, the latest Daily Star report has crushed that speculation and stated that Ronald Koeman’s side will not move for the powerhouse centre-forward.

Giroud is recognised for being a proven player in the Premier League and has 70 league goals in the English top flight for Arsenal.

Good move for Everton?

Everton are now set to be out of the running for Giroud and that is a bad move for the Merseyside club.

The striker recently chalked up his 100th goal for the Gunners in all competitions and is exactly the type of player that could boost the Toffees.

Giroud would be able to spearhead the attack and is a much better option than the likes of Sandro Ramirez, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Oumar Niasse.

He has shown that he can score plenty of goals in the Premier League and would surely thrive of regular football at Goodison Park.??This Is Futbol rating: 2/10

Likely to happen?

It now appears that the Giroud switch to Everton seems off the table and that the Merseyside club will look elsewhere.

The Toffees have been heavily backed to complete a switch for the Gunners striker, who is not playing regular football ahead of a World Cup year.

It would be no surprise to see Giroud try to force a move away from the Emirates Stadium in the search of regular football, but it now seems unlikely Everton will be his destination despite their apparent need of a target man.
