Harry Winks has said that after breaking into the first-team squad, he is now focused on winning the Premier League with Tottenham.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a brilliant season so far for Tottenham, starting the last four games on the bounce, and putting in a brilliant shift against Real Madrid in the Bernabeu.

The young midfielder has also broken into the senior England set-up and must now harbour real hopes of making Gareth Southgate’s squad for the World Cup finals in Russia next season.

However, talking on Sky Sports coverage of the game against Man United, Winks said that he is only focused on winning something with Spurs now.

Asked what was next in his career, Winks said: “I would like to be part of the Spurs team to win the league, or any trophy. We’re more than capable of doing it.”

OPINION

Tottenham fans will be delighted to hear Winks say that he’s focused on winning a trophy with Spurs – it’s what the team needs after some brilliant performances under manager Mauricio Pochettino. Unfortunately, Tottenham’s title credentials were dented in a fairly drab game against Man United at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon. In a game of few chances, Man United took all three points late on when Anthony Martial scored after being put through by a Romelu Lukaku header. It leaves them in third in the table, three points behind Man United and eight points off Man City at the top. Winks did qualify his initial remark with “any trophy” and if they fall much further behind Man City this season they may have to look towards the Champions League or the FA Cup. After the defeat by West Ham in midweek, the league cup will evade them for another season, too.
