Walcott signature could lead to top 8 finish

Arsenal are reportedly looking to sell attacker Theo Walcott in January and Newcastle United should pounce on the situation to bring him to St James’ Park.

The Sun claim that the 28-year-old is longer in the plans of Arsene Wenger and that the North London club will look to sell him on when the transfer window re-opens this winter.

It is understood West Ham and Everton have shown an interest in the England international, who is believed to be on a £110,000-a-week contract.

Newcastle should look to blow their Premier League rivals out of the water and try to sign the blistering attacker.

The Magpies would have a realistic chance of finishing inside the top 8 of the Premier League if they land Walcott as he could give them the extra bit of quality in attack.

Rafael Benitez’s side are strong defensively which has helped them sit ninth in the table going into the international break and they could finish just below the division’s six elite clubs if they find a reliable source of goals.

Walcott may have fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal, but there is doubting his touch in front of goal.

The Englishman can either operate as a right winger or alternatively the North East club could use him as a centre-forward if they signed him.

He managed a sensational 19 goals in just 37 appearances for the Gunners last season and would be a top signing for Newcastle if they picked him up.

Walcott will be desperate for a strong season to ensure he is in Gareth Southgate’s England squad ahead of the 2018 World Cup and he would shine if he moves to St James’ Park.

He would be an upgrade on the current forward options of Dwight Gayle, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Joselu, while also being a great option out wide.

Benitez’s side have shown they can soak up pressure and defend properly in the top flight and Walcott could be a menace for them on the counter attack.
