Danny Rose is in line to make his long-awaited comeback in Tottenham’s mouthwatering showdown against Real Madrid in just over two weeks, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim that the left-back is stepping up his recovery from a knee injury that has sidelined him since late January and could be a fortnight away from a return.

The Sun claim Rose will be in the frame to face the European champions away at the Bernabeu on October 17 if there are no further setbacks from the problem that has kept him out for nine months.

The defender, 27, has not played since breaking down against Sunderland at the end of January with an injury that required surgery at the end of last season.

OPINION

Spurs have coped well in the absence of Rose, with Davies demonstrating that he is one of the most solid left-backs around. The Wales international is a fine player, as he demonstrated with an impressive display in Tottenham’s demolition of Huddersfield yesterday (Saturday), tucking away the second goal with great calmness. But Davies is not in the same class as Rose when it comes to bombing up the left flank and delivering a real cutting edge to attacks. The Englishman was in the form of his life until injury struck, at which point he was looking the best left-back from this country since Ashley Cole.
