Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that Danny Rose is starting to “feel happy” again after his injury hell left him downhearted.

Tottenham manager Pochettino explained at his weekly media briefing this afternoon (Friday) that he had spoken to the left-back, 27, earlier in the day as he steps up his recovery from the knee problem that has sidelined him since January.

Rose has been absent for nine months but returned to first-team training earlier this week and the light is at the end of the tunnel for the player after a lengthy recovery period.

“This morning we had a conversation, he’s feeling well, he’s starting again to feel happy about his situation, about sharing with the team more time than before,” Pochettino said, as quoted by the Football London live blog of his press conference.

Rose is not in contention to play for Tottenham in the Premier League clash against Bournemouth at Wembley tomorrow, but will soon be available for selection.

The left-back has been linked this week with a move to Manchester United after claiming in the summer that he could quit Tottenham for bigger wages elsewhere.

OPINION

It has been a long road to recovery for Rose, and it is little wonder that he has been left looking blue while Tottenham carry on just fine without him. Nevertheless, it is a major bonus for the team that Pochettino will soon be able to call upon one of the most dynamic left-backs in the world. Ben Davies has done a sterling job in Rose’s absence, but the older man is a notch or two above with his speed, dynamism and overlapping excellence. He is a key man and will instantly make the team better when he is fit and firing.
