Henry Onyekuru has revealed on Instagram he is in Liverpool after it was reported that Everton were looking to cut short his loan spell at Anderlecht in January.

Prolific forward Onyekuru, 20, has sent the rumour mill into overdrive as Ronald Koeman’s side consider options to beef up their floundering strike force in the winter window.

The Nigeria international signed for Everton from Belgian side KAS Eupen in the summer was immediately loaned out to Anderlecht after failing to secure a work permit.

However, Nigerian news outlet 90 Minutes Goal reported that week that Everton wanted to have a second attempt at securing a work permit by using the “special talent” argument that has previously seen John Obi Mikel join Chelsea and Kelechi Iheanacho agree a move to Manchester City.

Onyekuru has scored five times in 12 matches while on loan at Anderlecht after netting 24 times in 41 appearances at Eupen last season.

The wide attacker has posted a picture of himself on his Instagram story on his personal account which geo-tags him as being on Merseyside as a passenger in a car, suggesting that there may be substance to the report about a January switch.

OPINION

Everton need a goalscorer in January and Onyekuru represents a possible solution should they be able to navigate red tape and secure a work permit for him. The Nigerian has made a huge impact in Belgium, which has provided a conveyor belt of exceptional Premier League players, but he is not the centre-forward that the Goodison faithful crave. The youngster is a wide forward who has made his name cutting in from the flank and ripping full-backs to shreds. He is not the next Romelu Lukaku, who will lead the line and work the centre-backs.
