Newcastle United fans took to social media to climb into Georginio Wijnaldum for what they felt was his anonymous performance for Liverpool in Sunday’s 1-1 draw.
The Holland international spent a season at St James’ Park during the 2015/16 campaign when he was the top scorer during his one season at the club, netting 11 times in 40 appearances.
But it did not escape the attention of the Toon faithful that all of his goals came at home and he was unable to prevent the club from slipping to relegation to the Championship.
Wijnaldum was subsequently signed for £25million by Liverpool, where he has been predominantly used in a central midfield position.
He has made 53 appearances for the Merseyside giants since his arrival, scoring six times and notching up 11 assists for his team mates, and is an established member of the starting XI.
But that did not stop Newcastle fans laughing on social media at Wijnaldum’s expense as they recalled how he performed so rarely on the road when he was in the black-and-white.
