Jamaal Lascelles and Mo Diame are set to take the entire Newcastle United squad out for a slap-up meal following their training ground bust-up.

Diame and Lascelles were involved in a fight at the Magpies’ training base last week that ended with peacemaker Jonjo Shelvey fracturing a finger.

Manager Rafael Benitez revealed at his weekly media briefing on Friday, as quoted by the personal Twitter account of Sky Sports correspondent Keith Downie, that the warring duo have agreed to take the whole squad out for lunch as a way of apology.

Lascelles and Diame came to blows after an argument got out of control, prompting Shelvey to act as peace maker.

The former Liverpool and Swansea player leapt in between the two as things turned ugly and was caught by a flurry of punches as he tried to wrestle them apart.

The row was reported by the Telegraph to have started during a feisty training session on Thursday in which Lascelles repeatedly described Diame, who has retired from international duty with Senegal, as “lazy.”

Benitez is said to have been unimpressed by two senior players losing control in such a violent manner.

He has spoken to both Lascelles and Diame and hopes the problems between them have now been solved.

This came shortly before it was announced that Lascelles had signed a new six-year contract at St James’ Park.
