Paul Merson has predicted Liverpool to draw when they host rivals Manchester United on Saturday in the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp’s side welcome their historic rivals to Anfield for a highly anticipated league clash and will be looking to secure the bragging rights.

The Merseyside club could also use the points after an average start which has seen them fall seven points behind current pacesetter Man United and Man City.

The last three meeting between the clubs have ended up as a draw and it is set to be another tight affair.

Liverpool have been dealt a major injury blow as star attacker Sadio Mane is ruled out injured, while United are without midfield duo Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini.

Sky Sports pundit Merson has tipped a 1-1 draw between the two sides ahead of their lunchtime kick-off on Saturday.

“This is a massive game, but I just don’t see how Liverpool win without Sadio Mane,” Merson wrote in his column for Sky Sports. “I half-fancied them with Mane, but I can’t see it now.

“Manchester United are a better team but Liverpool’s home advantage should help them get a draw.”

OPINION

Liverpool are already being written off by most people for the Premier League title this season after a mediocre start and it could be all but over after eight games if they lose at the weekend. The Manchester clubs look the teams to beat this season, but Klopp’s side can beat anybody on their day if they play near their best. The home advantage could play a big role for Liverpool and it will be a really big test of United’s character to see how they come through their first major test this campaign. Mourinho’s side have made a blistering start to the new season and the form of star man Romelu Lukaku could play a big hand in the result at Anfield.
