Winger Lazar Markovic and defender Lloyd Jones are set to leave Liverpool in the January transfer window, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim Markovic, 23, and Jones, 22, are expected to be the only movers from Jurgen Klopp’s squad in the winter window.

Markovic, who was signed from Benfica for £20million in the summer of 2014, has not played a single minute for Liverpool this season after failing to secure a move away from the club in the summer.

He had been expected to leave but despite interest from a number of clubs – among them Watford – a transfer failed to materialise.

England Under-20 international Jones has made five appearances in Premier League 2 for Liverpool Under-23s this season, and is not part of the senior squad.

OPINION

It does not require the investigative skills of Poirot and Miss Marple to deduce that Markovic is definitely for sale but Liverpool want to recoup their fee of three years ago. Markovic flopped on loan at Sporting Lisbon but revived his career under Marco Silva at Hull in the second half of last season, much as Mamadou Sakho did at Palace. Silva wassaid to be keen to take the Serbian wide man to Watford in the summer but they would have had to shatter their transfer record to land the 23-year-old. There appears little chance of the one-paced Markovic appearing in a Liverpool shirt again.
