Everton players are convinced under-pressure manager Ronald Koeman wants out of Goodison Park, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim that first-team stars have picked up on signals that the Dutch boss “is just waiting to be fired by chairman Bill Kenwright and owner Farhad Moshiri”.

The Sun report that the Everton players have noticed how Koeman’s demeanour has changed and that he has become “more distant and detached” in the wake of a wretched run of results.

The Merseysiders’ 1-0 defeat by Burnley on Sunday was their fourth defeat in seven Premier League matches and left them hovering two points above the relegation zone.

OPINION

As the inquest into another horrible display intensified, majority shareholder Moshiri insisted that “Koeman has my total support”. However, the billionaire boss did not help matters by claiming that the defeat to Burnley “was the only unexpected loss”. How can expectations be so low when £220million has been spent on new players in the last 15 months, including £145million in the recent window? Everton are massively underperforming and struggling to play two games a week despite the vast investment in the squad. Most of the new signings have struggled, certainly the attacking ones, and the failure to adequately replace Romelu Lukaku is looking more foolish by the day. It is unsurprising that Koeman is in a filthy mood, but he is a proud man and will not want his Everton tenure to be regarded as a failure. He should be given at least another month to turn around the team’s fortunes.
